South African tenor leads a cast of world class singers in AIDA, on screen at cinema.
South African tenor Johan Botha heads a stellar cast of opera stars in Verdi’s AIDA, the second of the Met Opera’s masterpieces which opens at all Cinema Nouveau theatres on November 27, 2009. Botha tackles the gallant character of Radames, a mammoth role shied by many tenors because of its demanding vocal challenges.
This Met (New York Metropolitan) Opera production features a cast of powerful voices to match Aida’s epic scale, which in this grand production uses every stage lift in the house.
Violeta Urmana, whose vocal prowess and ability is tested by the soaring and wide-spanning phrases, stars in the title role of the enslaved Ethiopian princess; with Dolora Zajick as her rival for the affections of Johan Botha’s Radamès.
This production of AIDA marks the long-awaited return of Daniele Gatti, whose baton leads a melodious army of singers, including the Met Chorus and extras.
